What you focus on expands….

When we place our attention, or focus on, a particular goal, we increase the potential for achieving that goal. Oprah Winfrey, who is often heard saying, “What you focus on expands” is a proponent of this line of thinking and has even had guests on her show to discuss the power of deliberate focus.
Here is an interesting story that illustrates the power of setting and continually reviewing one’s goals.
A few years ago Olympic decathlon gold medalist Bruce Jenner was asked to speak to a group of Olympic hopefuls. During the lecture he spoke about the importance of goal setting and asked if anyone in the room had written out their intentions and aspirations. Everyone in the room raised their hands. When he asked how many of them had that list with them right at that moment, only one person raised his hand. That person was Dan O’Brien who went on to win the gold medal in the decathlon at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
Curious, isn’t it? Never underestimate the power of setting goals and reminding yourself of what you desire to accomplish. Not only did Dan O’ Brien both identify and handwrite the specific goals he wanted to create, he carried these goals with him, so he could review them throughout the day, each and every day.
