The 10 days of Christmas break… day 5!

On the fifth day of Christmas break, my tutor gave to me, 10 SAT vocabulary words, 10 SAT vocabulary words, 10 SAT vocabulary words, 10 SAT vocabulary words and 10 SAT vocabulary words…
For anyone who is signing on to our blog for the first time today, let me give you a little background on what we are doing. For each of the 10 days of winter break (excluding weekends), we will post 10 new SAT vocabulary words for you to review. We encourage you to study all the words over the holiday and add 100 SAT words to your vocabulary. Look back at the previous blogs for the introduction to this series and lists of words and check back tomorrow for a new set of words.
Here are the fifth set of words:
Ø Deflect (v.): to distract; to turn aside from initial or intended course
Ø Frivolity (n.): a trifling act, thought, saying, or practice; the trait of being frivolous or not serious
Ø Elegy (n.): a mournful poem (lamenting the dead)
Ø Harangue (n.): a tirade; a speech or piece of writing characterized by strong feeling or expression
Ø Egress (n.): any place of exit
Ø Frigid (adj.): lacking warmth; stiff and formal in manner
Ø Fresco (n.): the art of painting on a surface of plaster, particularly on walls and ceilings
Ø Degenerate (v.): to become worse or inferior
Ø Fray (v.): to wear away by rubbing
Ø Defame (v.): to slander
