One of the questions, we often get at Academics Plus is: Should my child take the SAT or the ACT? So over the next few days, we will post questions we are frequently asked as well as list the differences between these two important exams.
What is the ACT?
The ACT is a exam designed to measure a student’s proficiency in in English, math, reading and natural sciences. It is used by colleges to determine a student’s eligibility for acceptance, and used as a predictor to determine if the student is likely to succeed in college level classes once he or she has been accepted.
For many years, the SAT was THE college entrance exam – the one that most students opted to take, particularly students from schools in the northeast. However, the ACT is becoming a more widely recognized and accepted exam. Many universities accept either the SAT or the ACT; however, at some of the more competitive schools, the SAT is the more popular choice. When students are deciding between the two, we highly encourage them to factor in a multitude of viables and to do their research. We will, over the next week or so, post a bunch of blogs identifying the differences between the two exams, the most frequently posed questions, and some tips and hints that will help students decide.
